Celebrate, come together and reflect on our community as a whole and the many facets that make up the character of our amazing Shire with a variety of Australia Day activities!

Celebrate Australia Day in the Forbes Shire starting with the annual Community Breakfast hosted by Forbes Rotary, in partnership with Forbes Shire Council in Lions Park from 7am – 9pm. Then join us for a relaxed celebration by beautiful Lake Forbes with  Chillin by the Lake at various picturesque locations around Lake Forbes. Party in the Park will kick off at Lions Park from 6pm, featuring live entertainment from GabeMusic, amazing food and drink vendors, kids activities, free pedal boats and a spectacular fireworks display at 9pm!

Australia Day Awards Now Open!

The Australia Day Awards are proudly presented by the Australia Day Council of NSW and administered by Forbes Shire Council. The Awards promote and recognise outstanding examples of citizenship and achievement during the current year, and/or outstanding service over a number of years to our local community or over and above normal employment duties.

Council recognises outstanding citizens in the following categories;

  • Citizen of the Year (open - any age) 
  • Young Citizen of the Year (25 years or younger) 
  • Senior Citizen of the Year (65 years or older).

Award Writing Workshop! 

It's that time of year again - to nominate for the 2022 Australia Day Awards!
Forbes Shire Council and Forbes Business Chamber are teaming up to assist you in writing a great award submission. Our goal is to send you away with a submission ready to upload!

Citizen of the Year - Gala Dinner 

Join us for the annual Citizen of the Year Gala Dinner, this year the gala dinner will be held on Tuesday 25 January. This event aims to recognise residents who have made outstanding achievements in their field or who have made a significant contribution to our community, The Official Ceremony will include the presentation of the Citizen of the Year, Young Citizen of the Year and Senior Citizen of the Year award winners and nominees which will be live-streamed for all community members to enjoy the formalities and congratulate our 2022 Citizens of the Year. 
This event includes canapes and a 2 course sit down meal, catered by Eat Your Greens.  Local Artists will perform for the duration of the event.

Rotary Community Breakfast 

Community breakfast hosted by the Rotary Club of Forbes, in partnership with Forbes Shire Council. This event will be hosted on the picturesque lake Forbes at Lions Park from 7am-9am. This event includes the Rotary Citizenship Awards and will kick off the community celebrations on Australia Day.

Chillin' By the Lake 

Chillin' By the Lake will feature a variety of food vans at various points around beautiful lake Forbes from 10am-2pm. Council invites you to bring a picnic rug and enjoy our beautiful lake. Food vans will be located at Lions Park, Forbes Aquatic Centre, Apex Park and the Water Park.

Party In the Park 

Party in the Park will kick off at Lions Park from 6pm, featuring live entertainment from GabeMusic, amazing food and drink vendors, kids activities, free pedal boats and a spectacular fireworks display at 9pm! This is a BYO event.

ROAD CLOSURES 
Council wishes to inform the community that a fireworks display is planned as part of the annual Party In the Park Australia Day celebration. This event is scheduled on Wednesday 26 January 2022 from 6pm-10pm at Lions Park, Junction Street. The fireworks display will occur from 9:00pm at Bates Bridge, Lachlan Street. Council further wishes to advise the community that road closures will be implemented on Lachlan Street at Baytes Bridge on Wednesday 26 January 2022 between 7:00pm-9:45pm to ensure the safety of the community during the fireworks display.
Council is committed to ensuring the least possible disruption to the surrounding community. Should you have concerns regarding this fireworks display, please contact Event Manager Sarah Williams on 02 6850 2300 or sarah.williams@forbes.nsw.gov.au.

Provision of Bar Services

Council is currently seeking Expressions of Interest from community groups and other interested organisations for the Provision of Bar Services for the Australia Day Citizen of the Year Gala Dinner on Tuesday 25 January 2022 from 6pm at the Forbes Town Hall.  Organisations must be willing to obtain relevant licencing and insurance requirements.
