| The Multipurpose Equestrian Centre (MEC) is a transformative infrastructure project designed to elevate equestrian sports and community events in Forbes and the wider region.
The purpose of this project was to construct quality multipurpose, all-weather sports infrastructure to increase the capacity of equestrian sports to host larger and more frequent events all year round.
The project will result in improved participation across a broad range of sports and promote positive economic, health, education and social outcomes for Forbes and the wider region
The Multipurpose Equestrian Centre (MEC) is an 80m x 60m shed that provides an undercover arena for multiple community groups and public events.
Based on available funding, the project will be broken down into multiple stages. Stage 1 construction commenced in November 2022 and was completed and open to the public in November 2024.
The project was funded by a $3.6 million grant under round one of the NSW Government’s Multi- Sport Community Facility Funding program.
Completion of the MEC is the first phase of a larger master plan for an equestrian precinct that has been the result of extensive consultation.
With its steel roof structure, the MEC is an 80m x 60m undercover sand arena, that features water tanks, access to potable water, lighting, wireless access points and a wireless sound system.
The arena is fenced, and temporary fencing panels are available to suit different needs for a variety of events.
The precinct features ample camping and parking space, and access roads designed for vehicles of all sizes, including large trucks.
Council is currently developing detailed designs for further development in the precinct. Future projects will include grandstands, camping complex, amenities and canteen, stables, carparks
and footpaths and additional fencing and yards.
Depending on funding availability the remainder of the project will be broken down into stages.
