Forbes Lake Activation Plan (LAP) Parks and
Amenities Resilience and Betterment Project

In August 2022, severe weather and flooding swept across Southern and Central West NSW, leading to two official disaster declarations (AGRN 1030 and AGRN 1034).

These events significantly impacted 76 Local Government Areas (LGAs), including Forbes Shire, Cabonne, Lachlan Shire, and Parkes Shire.

To support recovery, the NSW and Australian Governments have committed $25 million under the Community Assets Program (CAP) 2024.

Forbes Shire Council received funding of $3,964,375 to complete the LAP Parks and amenities Project.

This funding is dedicated to repairing, restoring, and improving community, cultural, and sporting infrastructure that was directly affected by the floods.

Forbes Shire Council is using this funding to upgrade Apex Park and Lions Park, two key recreational spaces in the community.

These upgrades will:

  • Improve accessibility for all users
  • Encourage greater community use and enjoyment
  • Create more resilient public spaces using flood-tolerant materials and construction methods
  • Reduce maintenance needs before and after future flood events

These enhancements aim to build stronger, safer, and more inclusive spaces for everyone in the community—ensuring that these parks remain vibrant and welcoming, even in the face of future challenges.

The project commenced in June 2025 with an anticipated completion date of April 2027.
