The Forbes Arts Society purchased the former Forbes and District Ambulance Station at 110 Lachlan Street, Forbes in December 2019. The site will be developed into a vibrant, civic hub. A space that encourages locals and visitors to create, share and experience art and culture as well as meet, gather and connect with one another.
The Forbes Cultural Centre will provide the community with a sophisticated architecturally designed ground floor and first floor complex complete with multiple art galleries, storage areas, meeting rooms, conference rooms and café with indoor and outdoor dining.
Due to construction challenges experienced by the previous builder the build was abandoned at approximately 20% complete and progress ceased for approximately 18 months. Council was approached by Forbes Arts Society (FAS) regarding assistance in the project management and project delivery options. During consultation with FAS, Restart & Public Works the proposal provided by council to complete the building in a milestone approach was endorsed. This includes the following Milestones:
Milestone 1 – site cleanup and establishment, installation of lintels and brickwork
Milestone 2a – Lintel install and stabilize brick wall, commence work on structural and façade works
Milestone 2b – Earthworks and concrete, get building to lock up stage.
