Lions Park Progress

Forbes Shire Council has been very busy during lockdown with major progress being made in the refurbishment of Lions Park. Mayor Phyllis Miller OAM is excited to see the improvements made to this beautiful area by the Lake.

“Lions Park is a place held very dear to many in the Forbes community,” says Mayor Miller. “The building of the new stage-rotunda area will really make this park as it is becoming the perfect location for holding events for the community.

“It will also be an ideal location for wedding photography as well as an entertainment stage for our many events held down here.”

This stage will be 6.5m x 9m with an 8m x11m pad. The existing walk way will be moved to ensure the stage can be installed without requiring the removal of trees, existing plaques or the flagpoles. The stage will have 3 phase power to cater for any equipment, including but not limited to production lighting and sound that may be required for events or community use. The stage will also have a water service, which is currently only available for community use at the BBQ shelter.

“When the Covid restrictions are over we do hope to be back down at this very park to celebrate events such as Teddy Bears Picnic, NAIDOC and our amazing Party in the Park for Australia Day,” continues Mayor Miller. “This stage will be the perfect place for the entertainment to come alive!”

The car park on the eastern side of Lions Park on James Street has now also been completed.

“Now there is fourty-three car parks available including four disabled carparks, which is double what has been at this location,” continues Mayor Miller. “We are so grateful to the Australian Government for projects such as this that are delivering some great outcomes for the community.

“We will continue to work hard to access more funding for the improvement of our Lake area, making it a place that all generations can enjoy.”
