So many events coming up in Forbes - this week it is Harmony Week - a celebration of our multicultural past and future. Forbes has a long history of diversity in our community and I think we can all reflect on this, this week with a focus on Eliminating Racial Discrimination.
We are proud of our culturally diverse team here at Forbes Shire Council and acknowledge how lucky we are to have expertise and experiences of many people. We are proud that our Council has attracted so many people to our community, who now call Australia home.
Harmony Day was established as a day of cultural respect, from our traditional owners to our newest arrivals from countries all over the world. We identify with over 300 ancestries with 48% of Australians were either born overseas or have a parent who was born overseas.
Especially at the moment with the war in Ukraine, we all really appreciate just how lucky we are to live and work here in Australia.
Forbes Shire Council is really embracing the Give it a Go - 2022 Senior’s Week, there will be workshops for weaving, croquet, talks, tai chi, Family History, pen and wash sketching, fishing, yoga and social chess.
All the events will kick off after the Seniors Variety Concert which is on Sunday, starting at 2pm. Over the following two weeks there will also be a drumming workshop, a men’s shed open day, a sculpture tour around Forbes- all finishing with Keith Potgear’s Gordon Lightfoot Sundown Concert to be held at the Town Hall on Saturday, April 9 at 6pm.
Likewise we have a full calendar of events for Youth Week which will coincide with the school holidays, there will be a safer driver course, movies, obstacool, a fishing workshop, laser tag, Cultural Art, games and more.
Keep an eye on our website and facebook page for all the event details.
Council is also calling for nominations from community members to nominate for our Council Committees for the aerodrome, Heritage, Events and Tourism, Floodplain, Saleyards and Trees.
Nomination forms are available on Council’s website or from the front desk. Suitably qualified and interested people are encouraged to nominate before 5pm on Friday, November 1, 2022.
