Half a million dollar funding boost for ForbesLast modified: July 10, 2009 - 1:09 PM
Forbes has the green light to proceed with almost half a million dollars in new community infrastructure projects, following the announcement of new funding by the Australian Government. Forbes Shire Council applied for funding under the Regional and Local Community Infrastructure Program (RLCIP), and has received advice that it will receive $494,000 in funding to contribute towards important projects. Mayor Phyllis Miller OAM said “the Australian Government is providing this half a million dollars in funding for Forbes in order to stimulate additional growth and economic activity.” Forbes Shire Council submitted a shortlist of fourteen projects for RLCIP funding following a process of community consultation, with the recent funding announcement confirming ten projects have been successful. “We are delighted that three local projects will receive $100,000 or more in funding, including the installation of a new closed circuit TV security camera network in the Forbes CBD ($100,000), resurfacing of the netball courts ($105,000), and installation of pipelines to the greens and fairways of the golf course ($135,000),” said Mayor Miller. Almost $100,000 more has been allocated towards installing festive street lighting on Templar Street ($25,000) and refurbishing the Victoria Park restroom facilities ($30,000), with the balance to be contributed towards design and construction of a skate park ($40,000). The five remaining projects which have been allocated funding include a new Ben Hall exhibition at the Forbes & District Historical Museum ($10,000), a new hot water system for the indoor pool ($9,000), installation of all weather shelters at the outdoor pool ($10,000) and at the Forbes Sport & Recreation Club ($15,000) and installation of new ceiling panels at the Forbes Town Hall ($15,000). “Forbes Shire Council anticipates receiving this RLCIP funding from the Australian Government during April, with projects to be underway by September this year,” said Mayor Miller. “As well as important new infrastructure, the community will be delivered other substantial benefits including local jobs and investment in our local economy; this is great news for Forbes.” For a full funding schedule see below.
