Council announces funds to spruce up Community Halls in ForbesLast modified: July 27, 2009 - 10:13 AM
Groups who manage Community Halls in Forbes and are interested in sprucing up their hall are asked to contact Forbes Shire Council to find out about a new Country Halls Funding Package. Expressions of interest are now open for the Country Halls Renewal Package, a State-government initiative offering $2.5 million to country communities to help renovate, extend or upgrade community halls. Mayor Phillis Miller OAM said “Council is excited to announce that any publicly-owned Community Hall in Forbes may be eligible for up to $50,000 in funding to spruce up the hall.” The Country Halls Renewal Package will match every $1 contributed by the community in either in-kind or financial contributions with $2 in funding to be spent on infrastructure costs including materials, equipment, building or repair costs. “Council wants to see the community of Forbes benefit from the Country Halls Renewal Package Funding. The fact that this funding is being offered on a 2 for 1 basis and that the community contribution can be 100% in kind makes this a fabulous opportunity” said Mayor Miller. “Our Community Halls are vitally important to our town, village and farming communities as a place for social gatherings, entertainment and activities.
