Forbes saleyards planning for growthForbes saleyards are experiencing a boom in interest from buyers, vendors and agents, as Forbes Shire Council continues with the design development phase moving towards delivery of Stage II of the Central West Livestock Exchange. The Council has entered the design phase for development of sheep yards, to accompany the state of the art cattle complex at Daboobalgie, about 10km north of Forbes, built in 2005 at a record of $10 million dollars. Forbes Shire Council's Manager Commercial Enterprises Kristy Hartwig said since completion the 10,000 square metre undercover cattle complex has experienced significant growth, with average yarding increasing by 25 cent in the past 12 months. "Vendors and agents can see the proven better results achieved at our saleyards because animals are relaxed in the stress-free environment we provide", said Mrs Hartwig. The facility can hold up to 3000 head of cattle on soft sawdust flooring and features fully automated drafting, scanning and weighing facilities, all operated by remote control. President of Forbes Associated Agents Bill Dunn highlighted that the saleyard facilities are better for both agents and cattle due to the overhead covering, double gates on each pen, soft floor and minimal human handling. "Some of the cattle even fall asleep towards the end of the sale," said Mr Dunn. The selling environment of Forbes' saleyards is continuing to appeal to vendors from throughout the central west, increasingly attracting vendors from surrounding markets for the regular weekly sales. Mrs Hartwig confirmed that in recent weeks two new agents have also have also made the move to Forbes seeing the results achieved through better conditions and better service. Forbes' saleyards are managed by an experienced support team whose goal is to create a great selling environment for agents, vendors and animals. "Our team is committed to leading the way in the saleyards industry. We have built great relationships with our agents and vendors, we care about the welfare of the animals sold in our yards and have established first class OH & S practices", said Mrs Hartwig. With the market increasingly looking for new services and amenities, Forbes is meeting this demand through continuous improvements and flexibility in the use of its yards. "We recognised the market required first class stud sale facilities and we are now catering for this with a permanent bull wash, pen or ring selling and a very attractive fee structure", said Mrs Hartwig. "We are also happy to discuss other options for the use of our yards such as special sales and hire opportunities, we recognize that our facilities are well suited not just for the sales market but also for veterinary and other animal care practices." Technology has also been installed that will facilitate online reporting, viewing and buying of cattle in the future, opening market opportunities with the rest of the state and Australia. With an ongoing commitment to investment in new technology and industry best practices, Forbes is leading the way in the saleyards industry and planning for continued growth.
