Council sets direction for 2008/2009Forbes Shire Council is inviting its local community to have a say in Council's planning, with the Council's 2008/2009 Draft Management Plan currently on public exhibition. The Draft Plan, presented in three parts; strategic plan, rating structure and budget, aligns Council’s planning with its six strategic goals to achieve its vision of “a prosperous rural community where residents and visitors enjoy a clean, safe environment enhanced by unique heritage and country lifestyle”. Mayor Rhonda Keane said, “Forbes Shire Council’s mission is for the whole community to grow and prosper. Our Plan for the next year includes many important undertakings including construction of a multi-million dollar walk in-walk out medical facility, progress of the Public Private Partnership process seeking to deliver Stage II of the Central West Livestock Exchange and major upgrades to local roads, together with continued provision of sustainable services. ” In compliance with rate pegging and Best Practice guidelines issued by the Department of Local Government, Forbes Shire Council has budgeted for a 3.2% increase to rates, water tariffs and availability charges plus sewer charges in the 2008/2009 financial year. General Manager Carissa Bywater said, “a Promoting Better Practice review report recently tabled by the Department of Local Government outlined that Forbes Shire Council has key elements of a good financial planning framework.” “When adopted the 2008/2009 Management Plan will be subject to both quarterly reviews including budget reviews, in addition to the annual report”, Mrs Bywater said. Council is holding a public meeting to present and discuss the 2008/2009 Draft Management Plan on Thursday 15 May at 7pm (Concourse, Forbes Town Hall – Harold Street). Any interested community members are invited to attend.
