Forbes Cultural Plan on exhibitionForbes Shire Council has completed its work on developing a Cultural Vision for the Forbes Shire. The community is invited to provide feedback on the plan by submitting written correspondence to Forbes Shire Council. The plan was developed with extensive input from the community and is part of a larger Council strategy to ensure community infrastructure and services are planned. During November and December 2007, over 110 local individuals and organisations/groups were invited to participate in community and stakeholder consultation activities. The outcome of the report and its local input has identified seven key strategy areas, including: Strategy 1 - Streamlining and improving current physical resource utilisation Strategy 2 - Establish set lines of communication between community and council Strategy 3 - Recognition of local Aboriginal culture and groups Strategy 4 - Promote marketing of Forbes as a ‘boutique’ shopping location Strategy 5 - Promoting established visual and performing artists Strategy 6 - Actively supporting local arts and cultural initiatives Strategy 7 - Policy and frameworks Strategy 8 - Best utilisation of historical Forbes Town Hall Forbes Shire is an area rich in culture and heritage. It has developed from a blend of agricultural and Aboriginal history that has fused over time to create a diverse local ethos in the heart of New South Wales. This is captured throughout the Shire in many forms, including heritage buildings, the local Art Gallery and Museum, the Forbes Historical Society, and some of Forbes unique local events such as the Jazz Festival and the annual Camel Races. The Cultural Plan is on display at Council’s Town Hall Administration Offices, the Forbes Town Library as well as being available on Council’s website. Download document Contact details |
