Major new solar technology business to start manufacturing in ForbesMayor Rhonda Keane officially launched a new multi-million dollar business in Forbes today (April 10, 2008) Powered by Nature purchased the former Forbes Indoor Cricket Centre which is being converted to manufacture products for use in solar hot water and solar electric power production. Powered by Nature Managing Director, Greg Gibbins, said the project is part of an expansion of the Solar Energy Division of Albury Consolidated Industries and will be concentrating on research and development of products associated with this dynamic environmental industry in Australia. “Machinery is being installed in the former Indoor Cricket Centre, with key production personnel and Powered by Nature’s Operations Manager, Tristan Black, relocating from Albury, while other staff will be recruited locally for Stage One of the project”, Mr Gibbins said. “Albury Consolidated Industries has been manufacturing for 22 years and this new company will include a Research and Development Division to produce and distribute products Australia-wide, as well as expanding to overseas markets in the near future”, he said. Councillor Keane has welcomed Powered by Nature to the Forbes Shire saying Forbes Shire Council wants to develop a sustainable community and the new venture shares the same vision for the sustainable energy sector. “Apart from the boost to the local economy created by the establishment of the new business, valuable employment opportunities will be created for local residents”, Cr. Keane said. Mr Gibbins outlined that the success of the company relies very much on the input of the local community.“Initially, just three staff members will be relocated from Albury to start up the operation and train up to 30 people recruited from the local area to take over the full operation of the business”, Mr. Gibbins said. “New employees will be trained in all facets of the operation, including Supervisors and other workers involved in the business”, he said. “In Stage One of Powered by Nature’s operations in Forbes, about 25 staff will be employed, while up to 20 additional workers will be required for Stage Two when it is anticipated shifts will be doubled to meet the increased demand for the locally-produced products”, Mr. Gibbins concluded.
