Planning Department receives A+ ratingThe Department of Local Government recently delivered a Report following an on site review of Forbes Shire Council under the Promoting Better Practice Program. The Report tabled to the April 2008 Council Meeting highlighted that Forbes Shire Council was doing a good job in terms of strategic and operational focus. Two of the Report’s highlights were that Council has strong and clear leadership and the Council’s Planning Department has received a high rating A+, after being listed as one of the top performers in NSW Local Government. Other Report findings include: · Forbes Shire Council is doing a good job in terms of strategic and operational focus, especially in regard to alignment of plans and actions with its six strategic goals to achieve its vision of “a prosperous rural community where residents and visitors enjoy a clean, safe environment enhanced by unique heritage and country lifestyle.” · Council also has an excellent working relationship with the Central Regional Organisation of Councils (CENTROC) and the Mid-Lachlan Alliance and these have recently resulted in significant local benefits to the community, such as reduced waste and recycling collection costs. · Council’s overall financial position appears to be good. Council has key elements of a good financial planning framework. Mayor Rhonda Keane commented, “Forbes Shire Council has undertaken to utilise the Promoting Better Practice Review as a “health check”, giving confidence about what is being done and to focus attention on key priorities. The Review has outlined recommendations in the areas of governance, planning and regulatory affairs, asset and financial management, community and consultation and workplace relations, which Council will assess and incorporate into its planning in the future”. Mayor Keane added, “The entire staff have been working extremely hard and this Report confirms that their proactive efforts are being recognised – congratulations to them all”.
