Shire Gets Top MarksForbes Shire Council's Planning Department receives top marks after being listed as one of the top performers in a State Government report on time taken to process development applications. Forbes Shire Council's planning department has been given A+ in its yearly report by Frank Sartor, after being listed as one of the top performers in a State Government report on time taken to process development applications. Forbes was placed among the best 11 council's in the state in the Local Development Performance Monitoring Report 2005/2006, released on Tuesday 17th July 2007 by the New South Wales Planning Minister. The Department looked at the mean, or average, determination time for all applications in various categories, including residential, commercial and industrial, and also the value of the development. Categories included developments of less than $100,000, form $100,000 to $500,000 or $500,000 and above. Mr Bennett said council's planning department assessed 211 DA's in 2005/2006 with a total value of about $9.8 million. While Forbes was named as one of the fastest to process DA's, the report also identified the state's worst performers, most of which were city councils. The report also singled out local government with high legal costs or with high numbers of appeals upheld against decisions. Mr Bennett said Forbes had a small legal bill with no decisions challenged in the courts in the last decade. Mr Bennett said that more pre-lodgement meetings would provide better results for both parties. The purpose of the meetings is to inform developers on what information is required to be submitted, what conditions thay may be required to meet and the expected time needed to assess plans.
