Kerbside Waste & Recycling Program

Last modified: February 17, 2006 - 11:02 AM

Forbes Shire Council in conjunction with J.R Richards & Sons and Netwaste have recently implemented an improved kerbside waste collection service which includes an all-in-one fortnightly recycling collection.

A Collaborative Approach

The all new improved kerbside waste and recycling service made available to residents of Forbes, occurs as a result of a collaborative initiative between five regional local government areas.  Forbes Shire Council together with Blayney Shire Council, Cabonne Council, Orange City Council and Parkes Shire Council, have combined resources to provide residents with a state-of-the-art waste collection service designed to minimise rubbish input to local landfills.

The new service incorporates a fortnightly recycling collection, where residents can place all potential recyclable materials into a yellow-lid 240L bin.  This bin is collected on a fortnightly basis, will all materials transferred to the J R Richards Material Recovery Facility (MuRF).

This brand new plant combines the most modern mechanical and human processes to segregate the mixed recyclables into various categories for sale to reprocessing companies.  All recyclables collected from your home will be made into new products.

Hints and Tips

  • Recycling helps us all - the less we dump the better for our environment.
  • By rinsing recyclable items we are supplying a better product for recycling. The returns are the same but it is cleaner and safer for the sorting staff and others down the line to handle. Your assistance is appreciated.
  • Please do not put recyclable in plastic bags - these items are not recovered and can cause injuries to staff.
  • Lids on glass and plastic containers are usually made from different plastics and cause contamination when recycled. Similar to rinsing, by removing lids you are ensuring your product will be recycled.
  • Hot items are a real problem in plastic mobile garbage bins and replacement costs are your responsibility - please avoid the need and expense to replace your bin by keeping hot items out of the bin.
