Forbes Shire Council is encouraging residents to attend two significant events organised by the Forbes Wiradjuri Dreaming Centre Indigenous Corporation this week.
National Sorry Day is being commemorated tomorrow at Forbes Wiradjuri Dreaming Centre from 10am.
There will be guest speakers sharing their experiences about the Stolen Generation, an unveiling of a solar light that will be permanently placed at the Dreaming Centre to guide the Stolen Generation home and a sausage sizzle.
Then on Wednesday everyone is invited to celebrate Reconciliation Day, also at the Dreaming Centre from 10am.
A sand ceremony will be held to symbolise reconciliation and there will also be music, dancing and a sausage sizzle.
Forbes Shire Council is supporting both events by providing the sausage sizzle.
Mayor Phyllis Miller OAM said Sorry Day and Reconciliation Day were both important events.
“Sorry Day is a very symbolic day to recognise the Stolen Generation and then Reconciliation Day is all about celebrating living together as one,” Mayor Miller said.
“A lot of work has gone into putting on both these events by the Forbes Wiradjuri Dreaming Centre Indigenous Corporation and I encourage residents to attend.”
