Nominations are now open for the 2016 Forbes Youth Week Awards, which will be presented at the awards night on Thursday, May 5 at the Forbes Town Hall.
Forbes is celebrating this year’s Youth Week from May 2 to 8 and the awards recognise young people aged 12 to 25 years who have contributed to the community in a number of ways.
Nominations are open until 5pm on Wednesday, April 20 and categories are Youth and Community Award, Young Sports Volunteer Award, School Youth Award, Further Education Excellence Award and Brighter Future Award.
The Youth and Community Award is intended for a young person who has had an active and positive role in our community throughout 2015. Contributions can include ongoing volunteer work, taking a lead role in organising events including charity work, partaking in sporting and or cultural groups etc. Nominations for this award can be accepted from any community group/member.
The Young Sports Volunteer Award recognises a young person who volunteers within their own sporting club or a community sporting club. The award recognises contributions to the sport, through the provision of their own time, to assist with refereeing, coaching, setting and packing up, mentoring, canteen duties and any other way that provides assistance to the club.
The School Youth Award includes a junior award (years 6 to 8) and a senior award (years 9 to 12) and is nominated by local schools. Students chosen will be at the discretion of the school and could be nominated for most improved student, overall academic achievement, having a strong community spirit, strong leadership skills or good sportsmanship attitude.
The Further Education Excellence Award recognises students between 16 to 25 years that demonstrate a strong commitment to further education and achieving excellence in their chosen field of study.
The Brighter Future Award is for a young person who is endeavouring to make a positive change in their lives on a personal level and or community level. Nominations for this award can be accepted from any community group/member.
All awards will be judged by selected community representatives and nomination forms are available at Council’s administration office or on the website www.forbes.nsw.gov.au
Other events during Forbes Youth Week include a Super Mega Fun Day and movie night.
