Forbes Shire Council is reminding residents that nominations are open for candidates in the Local Government election to be held on September 10.
Candidates can pick up an information pack at Council’s administration office in Court Street and must lodge their nomination at Council before 12noon this Wednesday, August 10.
All of the information required and nomination forms are also available on the NSW Electoral Commission’s website www.votensw.info
The NSWEC Candidate Helpdesk is also in operation from 8.30am to 5.30pm on Monday to Friday by calling 1300 088 942.
Mayor Phyllis Miller OAM said she encouraged anyone wanting to stand for Council to contact her or any of the current Councillors for information.
“Representing our community as a Councillor is a great experience and if you want to come and have a chat about what is involved, my door is always open,” Mayor Miller said.
The Returning Officer for the election is Geoff Lark, who is covering Forbes, Parkes and Lachlan Councils.
The draw to determine the order of candidates on the ballot paper for each Council will be held from 4pm on Wednesday, August 10 at The Coventry Room, Parkes Cultural Centre, Bogan Street, Parkes.
Candidates, registered political parties, media, council staff and members of the public are welcome to witness the ballot paper draw.
Voting is compulsory for all residents in the Forbes Shire who are registered on the electoral roll.
There is no absentee voting in Local Government elections, if you are unable to vote on election day, you can vote either by pre-poll or postal vote.
Pre-poll voting will be open from Monday, August 29 to Friday, September 9 in the Council Chambers.
Times for pre-poll voting are 8.30am to 5.30pm on Monday, August 29 to Friday, September 2, 9am to 1pm on Saturday, September 3, 8.30am to 5.30pm on Monday September 5 to Thursday, September 8 and 8.30am to 6pm on Friday, September 9.
Postal vote application forms will be available at www.votensw.info/early_voting_options/postal_voting and applications must be received by the NSW Electoral Commission no later than 5pm on Monday, September 5.
The election on Saturday, September 10 will be held at the Forbes Town Hall from 8am to 6pm.
