Forbes Shire Council resolved at its June meeting to donate the hire cost of the Youth and Community Centre to the group from 10am to 3pm each Wednesday for 12 months.
The group is led by Cherylin Cole who has been sewing since she was eight-years-old and wants to share her knowledge with other women in the community.
Each session is a gold coin donation and Cherylin teaches each person individually rather than in a classroom style.
So far the women involved have learnt to make quilts, handbags, pillow cushions, wheat bags, library bags, curtains and more.
The participants then have the opportunity to sell their creations at the Forbes Lions Club Car Boot Sale each month.
Mayor Phyllis Miller said Council was pleased to support the group by waiving the cost of the Youth and Community Centre.
“This is a great initiative and it allows women of all ages to not only learn new skills but to socialise and meet new people as well,” Mayor Miller said.
“I encourage all women who want to learn how to sew to go along to the group sessions on Wednesdays – you can spend the whole five hours there or just an hour depending on how much time you have.”
