Forbes Shire Council will start conducting surveys this evening to find out from community members what their preferred option is in regards to standing alone or merging with another council after the release of the IPART Report following Fit for the Future proposals.
Independent research company Micromex will be undertaking the survey of 300 randomly selected residents over the age of 18 via phone calls until Monday.
Council will also be seeking feedback from the community at a public meeting at 7pm on Monday night at the Town Hall.
Mayor Phyllis Miller OAM said asking the community about their preferred option was the most important thing to do before Council responds to the IPART Report by the November 18 deadline.
“It was decided by the Mid Lachlan Alliance (Forbes, Weddin, Lachlan and Parkes Shire Councils) at our meeting on Tuesday afternoon to seek feedback from our communities,” Mayor Miller said.
“This is an extremely important step in the process and we look forward to hearing what our community thinks about amalgamations or standing alone.”
At the public meeting on Monday night, Council will also inform the community what has been announced since the report was released.
“We only have until November 18 to put in our response and we want to make sure whatever decision we make will be in the best interest of the Forbes community to keep it strong and sustainable well into the future.”
