An information session for prospective candidates for Forbes Shire Council’s By-Election will be held from 5.30pm to 7.30pm on Tuesday, March 24 at the Council Chambers on Harold St (previously advertised as being at the Jemalong Regional Education Centre).
The session will be presented by the NSW Electoral Commission and the By-Election Returning Officer, Alan McCormack.
The election process as well as candidate’s legal obligations and responsibilities will be discussed during the information session.
The session will also cover the election timetable, candidate nominations, election advertising and how-to-vote material, voting and formality, vote counting, scrutineering, registration, appointment of official agents, campaign accounts, political donations, campaign expenditure and disclosure obligations.
General Manager Brian Steffen said all prospective candidates are encouraged to attend the information session.
“This is an opportunity for those who are considering nominating for Council to find out more about what the election involves as well as what candidates need to do before and during the election,” Mr Steffen said.
The By-Election will be held on Saturday, May 9. Nominations open Monday, 30 March and close 12 noon, Wednesday 15 April.
