Battye Street reconstruction continues with significant progress being made despite excess rain falling earlier this month causing delays.
The rainfall caused multiple soft spots in the pavement which needed rework.
“The earthworks have now been completed and the pavement has been placed leaving pavement stabilisation works, final compaction, and trimming to be completed prior to sealing,” said Forbes Shire Council General Manager Danny Green.
“There will be a short time between when the pavement has been completed and bitumen sealing to ensure that the pavement is performing as expected before sealing. It is also planned to asphalt Battye Street later in the year and therefore the pavement has been constructed 50 mm below the finished surface to allow for a 50 mm asphalt surface.”
“We understand the works are an inconvenience to some. But the aim with Battye Street is to do the job once and do it right so the road serves us well in years to come.”
The road was reopened on the weekend but the pavement remains unsealed. Regular watering will be undertaken to minimise dust.
“Battye Street is a busy and significant urban road and we thank the community for their patience as we reconstruct this important piece of our road network,” Mr Green said.
