If you’re thinking about installing a pool for Christmas now is the time to act.
The Development Application and approval process takes between 4 and 6 weeks and that means you need to act now to receive approval and be swimming by Christmas.
“One drowning in our town is too many and these regulations are in place to protect you and your family,” said Forbes Shire Council’s Acting General Manager, Max Kershaw.
Council also advises that all pools are required to have a barrier which complies with Australian standards.
“Having a pool installed is a wonderful addition to the family home but approval does take some planning and preparation.”
On the spot fines of up to $3000 can be issued for unauthorised swimming pools. However Council staff will arrange free pre-lodgement meetings or site inspections to help you through the process.
Many of us will consider buying an above ground or inflatable pool for the Christmas break and its important residents are aware of restrictions.
“Above ground or inflatable pools that are capable of being filled to a depth of 300mm or greater are required to be enclosed by a swimming pool barrier that complies with Australian standards,” Mr Kershaw said.
These pools also require development consent.
Your pre-lodgement meeting can be arranged by contacting Forbes Shire Council’s Environment and Planning Department on (02)6850 2344.
